SIX NATIONS DREAM TEAM 9. JEAN-BAPTISTE ELISSALDE 10. JONNY WILKINSON Date of Birth: I really like this player, Matt Dawson gets a mention because he was so competitive and really took his chances, but for real skill and calmness under pressure added to the authority he commands, Elissalde gets my vote. He is such a general and can pop up all over the park. Date of Birth: There are lots of reasons for including all sorts of other fly-half’s, from Rob Andrew to Ronan O’Gara to Jonathan Davies and others, but ultimately, Jonny’s work ethic and performances speak for themselves. At his best, he is one of the most fearsome tacklers I know, it is like having an extra back row forward. I can’t think of anyone who has consistently put in as many Man of the Match performances as he has. 11. SHANE WILLIAMS 12. WILL GREENWOOD Date of Birth: Scott Gibbs gets an honourable mention for being a player who gives you a real physical edge but Will is an artist, he is able to play right on the gain-line in the face of the opposition which, given his physical frame, was a really brave asset. Date of Birth: Wingers are a tough decision, I could pick so many but Shane has incredible spirit, he is not the biggest player but he makes the best of what he has. He is a gutsy player, his feet are like quicksilver and he is a real match winner. 96 / CLASSIC SPORTS SERIES |
