LAWRENCE DALLAGLIO’S SIX NATIONS DREAM TEAM

Date of Birth:
20 October 1979 Birthplace:
Limerick
International Debut: Ireland v Wales, Lansdowne Road, 3 Feb 2002 International appearances:
60

There are other strong candidates for this position but it’s all about partnerships at second row and Paul O’Connell at his very best is undoubtedly a real force of nature. He has that commanding presence. His work rate is also phenomenal and he is a brilliant ball carrier. The good news for the Lions is that he is returning to form.

Date of Birth:
25 March 1974 Birthplace:
Kumba, Cameroon International Debut: France v Italy Grenoble, 22 Mar 1997 International appearances:
63
Tries:
9

I should really pick my own back row to be honest but I have always liked Serge Betsen. He has such strength and pace, he is the sort of player that people love playing with. His enthusiasm and refusal to lie down added to his toughness makes him a hell of a player. He is one of the best tacklers ever.

6. SERGE BETSEN

8. SCOTT QUINNELL

7. RICHARD HILL

Date of Birth:
23 May 1973 Birthplace:
Surrey
International Debut: England v Scotland Twickenham, 1 Feb 1997 International appearances:
76
Tries:
12

Hilly in his prime was a fantastic 7. There is nothing between him and Neil Back, they are two of the best players I have ever played with and against. Richard started his international career at openside in 1997 so I would play him there to accommodate Serge. He was right up there with the very best.

Date of Birth:
20 August 1972 Birthplace:
Llanelli International Debut: Wales v Canada Cardiff, 10 Nov 1993 International appearances:
55
Tries:
12

If I was allowed to play, I would, but a fit Scott Quinnell could cause absolute havoc with that front five before him. He is a super guy, steeped in history and he is very passionate. The game has changed over the years and Scott would really have benefited from what is available to the
modern player today but he was very good and he would
fit in nicely with that back row.
