Sport has a habit of cutting you down to size – just ask Danny Cipriani. In March last year, he

was hailed as the new star of English rugby after a breathtaking performance in the Six Nations win over Ireland on his first international start. The embarrassment of being jettisoned from the squad for the previous match in the competition – the Calcutta Cup clash in Edinburgh – after being spotted leaving a London nightclub in the early hours just 48 hours before the game was long forgotten. In fact, sitting out that ugly defeat in the driving Murrayfield rain was probably something of a blessing in disguise.
